Porcelain Veneers Make Santa Fe Smiles Sparkle

What kind of smile do you have? Confident, sparkling, and bright? At SMILES OF SANTA FE, we believe every smile should be a work of art, so if you don't care for the picture your smile paints, we can help. Thin and luminous, porcelain veneers can cover a host of unsightly dental problems in the smile zone to create a perfectly shaped, absolutely gorgeous, white smile.

A comprehensive exam with Dr. Davis can confirm if this cosmetic enhancement suits your needs. To see what your smile would look like with porcelain veneers, we recommend you review our smile design literature and our before and after cases. You can also view a "Smile Design Wax-Up" before we begin. If you like what you see, you'll leave your first appointment with a set of temporary veneers while our master ceramist crafts your final porcelain veneer in a trusted American dental lab.

All-Ceramic Crowns Restore Damage without Compromising a White Smile

When tooth decay or damage too large to repaired with a tooth-colored filling strikes, a crown may be just the thing to restore dental health, but you want to make sure your restoration will blend into your smile seamlessly. Dr. Davis works only with local certified master ceramists who create crowns that are lifelike masterpieces made with natural-looking, durable, esthetic dental materials.

Dental crowns are available in a variety of materials including gold, porcelain fused to metal, and metal-free crowns. Depending on the oral health goals of the patient, the location of the damaged tooth, or other concerns, we may recommend any of these materials. Gold crowns are extremely effective when repairing teeth in the back of the mouth that absorb the bulk of pressure from daily chewing and grinding. This material is durable and creates minimal wear against opposing teeth. Porcelain fused to metal restorations offer a more natural-looking solution compared with gold, but overtime, the porcelain layer wears away revealing the darkly colored metal below. The most cosmetic solution is all-ceramic dental crowns. Crafted from a single block of high-quality dental-grade ceramic, these restorations can be shaded to match the natural smile, and even after years of daily wear, they maintain their natural color.

These metal-free crowns may be used on teeth with large compromised fillings, severe cavities, extensive dental damage, or to improve an improperly positioned or shaped tooth. Sometimes crowns can enhance tooth shape or color, as in the case of a smile makeover. In other cases, the all-ceramic crowns are used to repair damaged teeth without marring the flawless appearance of smiles.

Patients interested in metal-free dental restorations should plan to visit our office two times. During an initial appointment, we’ll remove a minimal amount of healthy dental structure to prepare the tooth to receive the crown. Then, we capture bite impressions that are used by our skilled ceramists to craft a custom restoration. Before patients leave, we place a temporary crown to protect the prepared tooth. Once we receive the final restoration from our lab, patients will return to exchange the temporary for a custom solution.

Direct Bonding

Using the tooth-colored material that forms fillings, we are able to offer a purely cosmetic solution for our patients. Known as direct bonding or cosmetic bonding, this cosmetic service is used to conceal and correct minor smile flaws including chips, gaps, and stains on the front facing surfaces of teeth. The end result is similar to what’s possible with porcelain veneers, but the entire procedure is completed in a single appointment, and the overall cost is significantly lower.

Gum Recontouring & Crown Lengthening

If you have a smile that’s gummy or teeth that appear stubby, your teeth may not be the problem at all. To make these smiles look more beautiful, we may recommend a treatment known as gum recontouring. As the name suggests, this is the process of removing a small amount of soft tissue to expose underlying dental structure giving the smile line an even, more aesthetic appearance. We may also recommend a similar treatment known as crown lengthening to prepare teeth to receive a dental restoration. We remove gum tissue to expose adequate dental structure to support crowns, bridges, or other restorative treatments.
