What is TMJ dysfunction?
TMJ dysfunction, often referred to simply as TMD, is the damage or strain of small joints that connect the jaw to the skull bone. This can happen due to an unconscious grinding and clenching habit known as bruxism, uneven wear and strain from misaligned bites, or following facial trauma or injury. Many patients with TMD are undiagnosed or misdiagnosed because the symptoms spread so far from the jaw. Pain ripples through nerves causing pain in the shoulders, neck, and back, as well as the jaw and other facial regions. That’s where treatment with the NTI-tss splint comes into play.
What is NTI-tss?
This oral appliance is custom crafted to position patients’ jaws in their ideal resting location. This relieves strain and reduces unconscious jaw movement. When worn every night, patients begin to experience pain relief during the day, and in some cases, patients are able to sleep without the NTI-tss splint after the unconscious habit is broken.
